We recently had the pleasure of attending the latest Laura Jones exhibition ‘Too Much/ Not Enough’ at the Sophie Gannon Gallery in Richmond, Victoria. Our first meeting with Laura’s gorgeous creations did not disappoint.
The exhibition was a dream-like experience – large-scale canvases put you in a dreamer’s trance with her amazing talent to “mark out time, to freeze a moment of fragile and excessive beauty before it gives way to the wilt”. It was inspiring and brilliant on all levels.
While her previous works mainly focus on the still life of vases, tables, cloths and surrounding objects, this exhibition jumped in and embraced the love and decadence flowers encapsulate – her backgrounds abstracted to focus purely on the colour and form of perfection that comes from a fresh cut bouquet of blooms.
Laura’s exhibition was truly romantic, with canvases that will be hard to forget.
